Masterson’s Pub , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment turned into one of the worst experiences of my life . While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I experienced behind its threshold was disturbing and far below any standard .

From the moment I entered , it was apparent that sanitation was not a priority at this bar . The floors were sticky , and a foul smell of stale beer and neglected washrooms filled the entire establishment . With a smell of a mixture of excrement , decay and a sickly smell. The main bar, which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and litter that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The lavatory was in even a truly awful state—overflowing , with a broken handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was fecal matter .

Many patrons have reported spotting critters darting across the drink station and proof of vermin in the adjoining rooms.
